Christmas is right around the corner and that means it’s time to hit the shops and buy gifts for your friends and family. Sometimes it can be frustrating to buy gifts for teens since they seem to already have what they want, or you simply feel out of touch with the current ‘trends’ and you don’t know what to get them.

Here at ZippyCrowd we have curated a list that will put a smile on any teen’s face.

Headphones

Music is universal and it’s guaranteed to soothe the soul no matter what genre you listen to. A couple of hot items on the market currently are Apple AirPods for iPhone users or Samsung Galaxy Buds for Samsung users. They allow one to listen to music on the go without the need to plug a wire into their phone. It’s a rather nifty device that every teen is sure to love with its sleek design and easy to use functions. Simply turn bluetooth on your apple device, connect, and you’re ready to go.

Pottery Workshop

If your teen loves art, instead of buying paintings or ceramics why not give them an experience to learn pottery instead.

Located in Brunswick, Sailorboi not only offers various pottery classes and workshops and some ceramics to purchase. I highly recommend that you choose their ‘Taste of Clay’ class. The class is 2-hours in length and is designed for all skill levels.

This is an amazing gift to give to any teen as it gives them an opportunity to create something totally different and unique to them.

Karaoke Night

Teens love to experience things with their friends, and there’s nothing better than coming together to belt out some tunes in a private booth. It doesn’t matter if the group doesn’t have the vocal prowess of Ariana Grander or Shawn Mendez. As long as they’re enjoying themselves then everything will be fine.

With a wide variety of song selections to choose from along with food and drinks our team at ZippyCrowd would recommend Karaoke spots such as KBOX Karaoke, because we’ve had a few fun nights there. This is a great gift for your teen to share with their friends.

Paintball

For the thrill seeking teens that want a hit of adrenaline, there’s no better gift than purchasing a paintball voucher to fund their next adventure with friends. There’s a variety of centres here in Melbourne to choose from, so no matter where you live there’s bound to be a centre nearby.

As the paintball queen at ZippyCrowd, I have found some great paintball locations that sell vouchers that you can easily purchase for teens. Snipers Den located in Heatherton have gift vouchers starting from $50 and LeMans Entertainment in Dandenong have gift vouchers starting from $25.

Custom Shoes

If you would like to give a teen in your life something that will stand out from the crowd, then how about commissioning someone to create custom shoes for them? The current trend amongst some artists at the moment is that they are purchasing Nike Air Forces and changing the all-white shoes into a work of art. Know a teen who is obsessed with an anime like Naruto, Demon Slayer, or One Piece? Why not ask an artist to customise a pair of shoes for them with their favourite character? Know a teen with an interest in the NBA? Why not get players like Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan custom painted onto a pair of shoes for them?

We know an amazing artist, maker, and custom sneaker designer – Shanaia from @artby.shanaia. Not only does she create unique and incredible shoes, but she also makes custom portrait prints. So, if custom shoes don’t sell it for you, why not commission her to create a custom print for a teen you know?

Experience an Escape Room

Instead of giving a product that you’re not sure the teen will enjoy or even like, a great gift would be to give an experience. Escape Rooms have become a hot trend in the past couple of years especially for teens.

What is an Escape Room? It’s essentially a game where a group of people is locked in a room and, in order to escape, they must complete various puzzles and challenges. What also makes Escape Rooms extremely attractive is the fact that each room is customised to fit a certain theme. Imagine exploring deep space with your crew and you suddenly find yourself trapped on a foreign planet, or you and your team are explorers who have been trapped in a temple, and you must escape before a curse is placed upon you. Also, Escape Rooms encourage people to work together, so it’s a great bonding experience for friends.

There are various Escape Rooms to choose from, but as an Escape Room connoisseur I would recommend Ukiyo Melbourne located in Coburg just north of the CBD. It’s the perfect place, especially for those who are first timers to Escape Rooms. It’s great for teens because it’s right outside a tram stop, so it’s easily accessible. What’s more, this is an unforgettable experience to share with teens. So head over to their website to purchase a gift voucher.

For those who are fans of horror another Escape Room to check out would be Dr. Q Escape Room. Their Escape Rooms are very hands-on and require great problem solving skills – imagine being locked in a cage, whilst your friend is chained to a wall. Also, for those who really want a challenge they offer a Zombie themed Escape Room with zombie impersonators.

Still not sold on any of these ideas? How about checking out our #LovedByLocals Makers at ZippyCrowd? You could pick a highly recommended personal trainer, music teacher, or even a stand-up paddle board instructor to give a teen an amazing experience. Just a reminder – it’s Christmas, so it’s all about people getting together.
