Being excited and happy about what you do is one of the best feelings, because let’s face it, we spend almost half of our lives at work or working. Unfortunately most of us wake up and hate the thought of going to work. In fact, Deloitte studies show that over 80% of people are disengaged and don’t enjoy their work.
‘Taking jobs to build up your resume is the same as saving up sex for old age.’ –Warren Buffett
Paycheck over passion
If you don’t like your job, you are not alone. According to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report, there are twice as many “actively disengaged” workers in the world as there are “engaged” workers who love their jobs.
- Engaged employees – only 13 % – work with passion and feel a profound connection to their company. They drive innovation and move the organization forward.
- Not Engaged employees – some 63% – are essentially “checked out.” They’re sleepwalking through their workday, putting time but not energy or passion into their work.
- Actively Disengaged employees – 24% – aren’t just unhappy at work; they pretty much hate their jobs and are busy acting out their unhappiness undermining what their engaged coworkers accomplish.
So, as Gallup puts it about 87% of workers worldwide “are emotionally disconnected from their workplaces and less likely to be productive.” In other words, work is more often a source of frustration than one of fulfillment for nearly 90% of the world’s workers.
When you fall in love… with your job
It seems that being happy at work is critical – both for us, and for the companies we work for. We are more engaged & productive, less sick & negative, more focused on what matters and less involved in all the ‘toxic’ stuff. Here are some great facts & stats on what makes your workplace a happy place for most.
How to find & do work you love
Scott Dinsmore, the founder of Live Your Legend, believed that the world would be an altogether different place if everyone did the work that mattered to them. The world where you could live each day using your natural strengths, skills, talents & passions in your own unique way, and make your mark on the world.
In his most inspirational TEDx talk (8M views!) on ‘How to Find & Do Work You Love’, Scott says that –
‘so many people around us are climbing their way up this ladder that someone tells them to climb, and it ends up being leaned up against the wrong wall, or no wall at all.’

If you can’t find a job you love, create one.
For years I used to be one of those lucky 13% engaged but frustrated employees surrounded by the whole lot of unhappy people in a disconnected workplace. The job paid well, yet I was constantly unhappy doing it, and there was nothing in my power that I could do to change that.
So one day, 2 years ago, I quit my job and career to create ZippyCrowd, the marketplace for ‘skilled crowds’ & ‘trusted communities’ where friendship and trust are the true currency of relationships and business.
I did it, so can you. If you can’t find a job you love, create one.
That’s what ZippyCrowd is for. Embrace the idea of entrepreneurship and passion, put your talents, skills, hobbies, relationships & friendships to use, work your way and make your mark on the world. And if, in the process, you feel a bit run down and stressed, jump on Positive HealthWellness site for some great tips and information on how to live a happier and healthier life!
